Neurosurgery is a key medical and health specialty in Shandong Province and a key clinical specialty in Shandong Province. There are six sub-specialties of traumatic neurosurgery, vascular neurosurgery, neoplasm neurosurgery, functional neurosurgery, neurology and spinal cord neurosurgery. At present, 210 beds are established, of which 38 are in neurological intensive care unit (NICU). Annual outpatient service volume is nearly 20,000, annual operation volume is more than 3,000, annual discharge is more than 5,000, treatment and rescue of difficult and critical patients is nearly 2,000.

    Neurosurgery now has 11 chief physicians and professors, 13 associate chief physicians, 7 master supervisors, 1 postdoctoral doctor and 21 doctors.     With the wide application of foreign exchange and high-tech in the field of neurosurgery, neurosurgery in our hospital has developed rapidly in recent years. Vascular specialty actively carries out the "Stroke Screening and Prevention Project of the Ministry of Health". Carotid color Doppler ultrasonography is used to screen cerebrovascular diseases. Carotid endarterectomy, carotid stenting, carotid artery composite surgery, intracranial and extracranial vascular bypass surgery and other interventional operations are carried out to effectively prevent and reduce the occurrence of cerebrovascular diseases. Carotid endarterectomy is a characteristic operation in the development of vascular neurosurgery since 2008. More than 100 cases of carotid endarterectomy have been performed every year, which is in the forefront of China. Carotid artery complex surgery has filled the gap in Shandong Province and become one of the first national training bases for carotid endarterectomy by the State Health Planning Commission. A green channel for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke was developed in combination with neurology and imaging departments. Intervention specialty carries out double microtubule embolization technology for complex intracranial aneurysms, improved pterional approach for intracranial aneurysms, and microscopic craniotomy clipping technology to fill many provincial and municipal gaps. Oncology specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of intracranial and spinal cord tumors, as well as neuroendoscopic micro-invasive treatment microscopy, endoscopic total skull base tumors resection technology, and brainstem tumors surgical resection technology. Functional neurosurgery has individualized, multi-operative comprehensive treatment and DBS therapy for children with cerebral palsy. At present, nearly 20 provinces (cities and districts) have come to the hospital for cerebral palsy treatment, and the satisfaction rate of six months follow-up visits is 98%. The specialty of skull base spine is characterized by skull base tumors, intraspinal tumors, spinal stenosis, minimally invasive and biological treatment of herniation of intervertebral disc. At present, it is in the forefront of hospitals at the same level. The minimally invasive treatment technology of hemorrhagic stroke, comprehensive treatment of severe craniocerebral injury, navigation technology, intraoperative CT application in neurosurgery and neuroelectrophysiological monitoring are the characteristics of our department. Some of them have reached the advanced or leading level in the province. ICU is the largest specialized neurosurgery intensive care unit in Shandong Province.

    In recent years, the departments have undertaken 7 projects of the national "11th Five-Year Plan", "12th Five-Year Plan" and "13th Five-Year Plan". They have undertaken 1 project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and 3 projects of the Shandong Natural Science Foundation of China. More than 280 scientific papers have been published, of which more than 30 have been included in SCI.
